I have been an avid scrapbook and paper crafter for the past 20 years. I am a strong believer in buying the best I can afford and making do with what I have rather than buying the same low-quality tools over and over. Throughout the years I have bought some real misses as well as some hits- these are the ones that I have no hesitation recommending.
Do you have a favourite craft tool you don’t see here? Is there a craft or scrapbooking tool you can’t live without?

My Favourite Scrapbooking Tools
Tape Runner – I did try and like the ATG gun that was all the rage and never quite got used to it ( read my post, ” I Think I Might Hate My ATG Gun“). I used to like an older style of tape runner from Crateive memories until i discovers this much cheaper and in my opion better tape runner. I come back to this over and over and nevr dissappoints.
KNK Zing/ Maxx Air Yes, I am biased. I own a Silhouette and Cricut as well as manual die cutter. As far as usability, versatility and build quality no one can beat KNK cutting machines.
Cuttlebug Embosser and Die Cutter– I almost didn’t post this because I figured everyone knows about it or already has. This should be one of your first investments if you plan on card making. I use mine mainly to use with embossing folders.
Creative Memories Personal Trimmer The perfect on the go size. Great for trimmer down printed photos and small pieces of papers. What makes it a stand out is the build quality and little dise drawer that holds lots of tools.
Creative Memories Circle/Oval cutting system For paper crafter one of the most challegin things in finding a awy to cut perfct cirles every time. It is a hassle to do with electronic machine and this makes perfct circles , ovals and mats in seconds. A must must must have if you are scrapbooking or card making.
Cricut 7-Piece Tool Kit – You don’t have to have a Cricut to appreciate this bundle of low price tools for electronic cutting machines,I love the scraper, precision scissor and boning tool in this. I got mine for $5.00 at Walmart- I often see on sale or clearance so keep an eye out.
Rhinestone Setter Hot-Fix Applicator Wand A mouthful for this handy tool. Create instant glamour and bling with hot fix rhinestones.
Softgrip Scissors Really nice scissors for cutting paper,
Carl Rotary Trimmer: Rotary style paper cutter- I bought this to replace a Purple Cow Trimmer that I wasn’t happy with and LOVE it. Bit heavier than the Fiskars to carry around.
Portable Paper Cutter-Fiskars 12 Inch Scrapbooking Trimmer
Embossing Heat Gun– used for embossing inks
Glossy Accents – Is what I use to adhere glitter. Work beautifully.
Diamond Dust Best. Glitter. Ever.
Cricut 7-Piece Tool Kit I love the scraper, precision scissor and boning tool in this. I got mine for $5.00 at Walmart- I often see on sale or clearance so keep an eye out.
Xyron 150 –When glue pen is too small.
My Favourite Cardstock & Papers
What makes good cardstock? We often use the term “cuts like butter” When paper cuts smoothly- no little jagged edges or tears. Paper that is heavy enough to keep its shape but not so heavy it won’t cut properly. paper that does wilt when you apply glue. Paper packs I buy for the whole pack- not for one or two patterns out of a bunch of duds that I kid myself I will use later. below are some tried and true papers that you cannot go wrong with.
